Welcome to Scoil na n-Óg

“We at Scoil na n-Óg provide a caring, nurturing and stimulating environment for all children attending the various Montessori sessions at our school. We strive to create a peaceful environment and each person is treated with unconditional positive regard and acceptance. Within this environment each Child’s development will be encouraged and supported, intellectually, emotionally, physically and socially.

This in turn fosters a climate that allows children to unfold their potential as whole and unique persons.

Our promise to you is that your child will be cherished as an individual and provided with all he needs to develop his/her own intellect at his/her own pace.

Parent Involvement
Parental Involvement.
“Parents are the primary educators of their child and have a pre-eminent role in promoting his/her well-being, learning and development”. (Siolta,2006).
There are many ways to provide parents the opportunity to be involved.

Parent involvement may be as simple as a parent providing classroom supplies or assisting on outings or charity events.
Regardless of the type of involvement, the relationship between parents and teachers should be one of mutual support and learning. At Scoil na n-Óg, we value and involve parents and families in a pro-active and partnership approach to their child’s learning experiences.

This includes:
  • Speaking daily to parents as they pick their child up from school, explaining what sort of day they had and what type of activities they became involved with.
  • Parent/Teacher interactions where parents meet with the teachers and have a chat and look at their children’s work.
  • Key worker system where each teacher is responsible for a certain group of children and that teacher talks to her/his particular parents.
  • Learning journals with photographs and captions of activities the child has been doing.
  • Parent notice board, flyers, e-mails, texts, suggestion box and photographs of any upcoming events that take place in the school.
  • Suggestion box for any ideas that parents wish to share with us for our curriculum planning.
  • Parents are invited to our farm day and they are also welcome to come in and chat about their Culture, Traditions and/or Occupation if they so wish.
  • Parents are free to come into school at any time and as often as they want and watch their child at work (open door policy).
  • Monthly newsletters explaining to parents what activities were done in that previous month.
  • E-mails of the coming month’s activities to parents and if they wish to send in/offer ideas about a certain topic they are free to do so.

We use the Montessori Method and principles of teaching which encourages and develops each child’s innate “curiosity about the world”

In our Montessori environment we aim to tell the truth to children, answering questions simply and with as much information as we feel a child can absorb and showing that we are open to any further questions they may have. Young children are better with stories and books which relate to the real world within their direct experiences as they are still at an age where they can confuse fact with fantasy.
